Hosting and technical connection data
This website is hosted on a VPS we manage using Microsoft IIS at ZAP-Hosting GmbH, Hafenweg 8, 48155 Münster, Germany. Requests involve processing technical connection data, including your IP address, time of access, requested address, browser information and HTTP status. This is necessary to deliver and secure the website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest in a secure, reliable website).
Where technical logs are stored for troubleshooting or preventing abuse, they are kept only for as long as needed for those purposes. Data relevant to a specific security incident may be retained until it is resolved. Information from the infrastructure provider is available in the ZAP-Hosting privacy policy.
No analytics or advertising services on this website
This website does not set analytics or advertising cookies or load tracking services. Fonts, images and videos are provided without third-party embeds. The language selector links to the German or English page without saving a persistent browser identifier. Playing the video loads the video file from this web server.
Interactive browser demo
The demo loads only when you start it using “Try the app”, a demo control or “Open separately”. Your browser then requests articles directly from Wikipedia. The Wikimedia Foundation receives, in particular, your IP address, technical connection data and the requested search terms or article titles. See the Wikimedia privacy policy for information about processing.
Topics, language, appearance, reading progress and saved articles are kept in this browser’s local storage to provide the demo features you request. There is no account or sync with the Android app. You can remove saved articles individually or delete all demo data by clearing this website’s data in your browser. The demo does not load Google ads or tracking services.
“Listen” uses your browser’s or device’s speech service. Depending on that service, it may send the text to its provider; the service’s settings and privacy information apply. No microphone access is needed.
External links and contact
In addition to the demo described above, your browser connects to external providers when you follow a link, such as Google Play or Wikipedia. That provider’s privacy information then applies. If you contact us by email, we process your email address, message and any voluntary information to respond (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contract-related requests; otherwise Article 6(1)(f), based on our interest in handling enquiries). We delete this data once the enquiry is resolved and no statutory retention requirements apply.
Your rights
Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation, and withdraw consent for the future. You may complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner.

Privacy in the Android app
Last updated: 28 October 2026 · iScrolli for Android
Articles and local settings
iScrolli does not require an account. Categories, language, appearance, reading progress and Likes are stored locally in the app. Likes include the title, article extract, language and Wikipedia link. They are not sent to an iScrolli server. The history stores up to 10,000 recently displayed article titles to avoid repeats. Settings and Likes remain until removed or until the app data is deleted; older history entries are replaced.
This storage supports the app features you select (section 25(2), no. 2 TDDDG). Where personal data is processed, this is to provide the requested service (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can remove Likes individually or delete all local app data in Android Settings under Apps → iScrolli → Storage. This also deletes your settings. iScrolli does not enable its own cloud sync.
Connections to Wikipedia
To load new content, your device connects directly to the Wikipedia API for the selected language. Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. in the USA receives, in particular, your IP address, technical request data and the search terms or article titles requested. This connection is necessary for the online feed (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Saved Likes can be read without requesting the article again. When you open a Wikipedia link, the destination website’s privacy policy applies.
Information on processing, retention periods and international data transfers by Wikimedia is available in the Wikimedia privacy policy. iScrolli has no access to those server logs.
Google advertising and privacy choices
The Android app includes Google AdMob and Google User Messaging Platform (UMP). In the store version, UMP checks the privacy status on every app launch and displays privacy choices when required. Only after UMP allows ad requests does iScrolli initialize the advertising SDK and load ads in gaps in the feed. In separate test versions, this feature starts only after you select “Start test ads” and uses Google test ads. Privacy checks and test ads can also connect to Google. The browser version does not load Google ads.
Before ads load, UMP checks whether a privacy choice is required and, if necessary, displays Google’s form. Technical device and connection data may be sent to Google, and your choice may be stored on the device. This check manages your privacy choice and compliance with legal requirements (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR). If the check fails, iScrolli does not request ads.
For users in the European Economic Area, the provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Ad delivery may involve processing your IP address and approximate location derived from it, device identifiers including the advertising ID, ad interactions and diagnostics. Purposes include ad delivery, measurement and fraud prevention. iScrolli requests non-personalized ads; these may also use data and local storage.
Where consent is required, processing is based on that consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and section 25(1) TDDDG). Ads are not requested unless UMP permits it. Depending on your choice, permission may allow only limited ads. You can reopen your choice using “Change privacy choices” in the info menu if Google provides this option. Withdrawal applies to future processing. “Turn off ads for this session” stops further ads in the current session but does not withdraw stored consent.
Google may also process data outside the EEA, particularly in the USA. Information on recipients, retention periods and transfer safeguards (in particular adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses) is available in Google’s privacy policy and its information about data use in apps. The partners and purposes listed in Google’s form depend on the configuration and your choices.
Reading aloud and contact
“Listen” uses your device’s speech service. Depending on the installed speech service, text may be sent to its provider for processing; that service’s settings and privacy information apply. iScrolli does not request microphone access.
If you contact us by email, we process your sender address, message and information you voluntarily provide to respond (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contract-related requests; otherwise Article 6(1)(f), based on our interest in handling enquiries). We delete this data once the request is resolved and no statutory retention requirements apply.
Your rights
Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You can withdraw consent at any time for the future and object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation. Contact studio@maets.de to exercise these rights. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner. We cannot remotely access or delete data stored locally on your device.
